Every journey with dentures is as unique as the smile it’s restoring. As you explore your denture options, it’s natural to feel a bit overwhelmed. Important questions often come to mind: Will my dentures look natural? Will they stay secure while I eat and laugh? Which type will feel like “me”? These are all valid concerns, and each one moves you closer to finding the right answer. At Esparza Dentistry, we’re here to guide you through your denture options, helping you feel more confident in making informed decisions. Choosing dentures isn’t just about replacing teeth—it’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin again. Some people appreciate the simplicity of traditional dentures, while others enjoy the freedom and stability that implant-supported options can offer. Each type has its own way of helping you enjoy life fully so you can laugh, eat, and smile without a second thought.
The Everyday Challenges of Traditional Dentures
Although widely used, traditional dentures present frustrating limitations that can affect everyday life. Full dentures, which replace an entire arch of teeth and rest directly on the gums, rely on suction and sometimes adhesives to stay in place. Unfortunately, even with a snug fit, they often lack the firm stability of natural teeth. Their instability leads to discomfort and embarrassing mishaps, especially when they shift while speaking or eating.
Another challenge with traditional dentures is reduced chewing efficiency. These prosthetics cannot handle the same bite force as natural teeth, making it difficult to eat hard or crunchy foods. As a result, many denture users have to modify their diets, which limits their nutritional intake.
However, the impact goes beyond diet alone, as the lack of proper chewing stimulation affects the jawbone’s health. Without the stimulation provided by natural tooth roots, the jawbone begins to resorb or shrink over time. This gradual loss of bone alters the shape of the jaw and affects how dentures fit. These changes often lead to discomfort and the need for frequent adjustments to the prosthetic. Additionally, the reduced support in the jawbone eventually leads to a “sunken” facial appearance that changes the contours of your face.
Advanced Denture Options With Mini Dental Implants
Choosing a denture that provides security and supports your health starts with finding one that functions like natural teeth. Dentures secured with mini dental implants are a great option, especially for those who have experienced bone loss and aren’t eligible for conventional implants. We insert these small titanium posts into the jaw to function as prosthetic tooth roots and support false teeth. Once we place them, the implants fuse with the surrounding bone to create a steady foundation for your denture.
In addition to fusing with bone, titanium offers impressive strength and durability. It can withstand the daily forces of biting and chewing, making implant dentures a secure, long-term solution for a natural-feeling smile. At Esparza Dentistry, we offer several implant denture options, all of which use mini dental implants as their foundation.
Your Implant Denture Options at Esparza Dentistry
Snap-On Dentures
Snap-on dentures, also known as implant overdentures, bridge the gap between traditional removable dentures and cemented implant-supported options. We secure these dentures to 4-6 mini dental implants, creating a snug fit that’s stable yet easy to manage. When you need to clean them, you can simply “snap” them off yourself. Since this option is removable, it allows for easier maintenance while still offering a far more secure fit than traditional dentures.
Semi-Removable Dentures
The semi-removable roundhouse bridge is a secure and comfortable denture option. We also call this option Fix-on-Six® because we place 6-10 mini dental implants in your jaw to securely anchor the bridge. Shaped like a horseshoe, the bridge follows the natural contours of your mouth and is often designed without the bulky upper palate found in traditional dentures. This open-palate design, when used, allows you to enjoy the full texture and flavor of foods. While this bridge remains fixed for everyday use, one of our dentists will remove it during your routine visits for thorough cleaning.
Non-Removable Roundhouse Bridge
A non-removable roundhouse bridge shares the same horseshoe shape as a semi-removable bridge. However, unlike the semi-removable option, we permanently cement it onto 10-12 mini dental implants, giving it a fixed placement that doesn’t require removal.
This permanent design is a great match for those who want a stable denture that feels as close as possible to natural teeth. Its secure fit provides strong support for everyday activities like eating and speaking without needing adjustments or removal, making it a low-maintenance and durable choice for lasting comfort.
